Richmond was ranked No. 25 in both the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association and Inside Lacrosse Week 5 polls, according to a March 9 announcement.
The ranking highlights Richmond’s performance this season, as it is the only team from the Atlantic 10 Conference to appear in either poll so far. The Spiders currently hold a record of four wins and two losses, with both defeats coming by just one goal against nationally ranked opponents.
Earlier this season, Richmond lost narrowly to then-No. 24 Penn State with a score of 10-9 and fell to then-No. 23 Duke in overtime, finishing at 15-14. Most recently, the Spiders began their Atlantic 10 Conference schedule with a decisive 15-6 victory over VCU at Cary Street Field.
The IWLCA poll lists North Carolina, Stanford, Maryland, Northwestern, and Navy as its top five teams. Similarly, the ILWomen Media Poll places North Carolina at the top spot followed by Stanford and Maryland.
Looking ahead, Richmond will play Rhode Island on Saturday, March 14 at Robins Stadium for its One Love game.
