The City of Richmond has rescheduled its Bring One for the Chipper E-Cycle Event to Saturday, January 17, due to expected weather conditions. The event was originally planned for January 10 but was moved to ensure the safety of residents, volunteers, staff, and vendors.

Organized by the Richmond Department of Public Works (DPW), the Clean City Commission, and the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA), this marks the 17th annual occurrence of the Christmas tree recycling initiative. The event will take place at 1710 Robin Hood Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to recycle their Christmas trees, shred sensitive documents, and dispose of old electronics at this free drive-through event. Volunteers will provide curbside assistance at the site. According to city officials, proper recycling helps conserve natural resources and reduces landfill waste while keeping local waterways clean.

Christmas tree recycling is available without charge. Trees can be dropped off at 1710 Robin Hood Road on or before January 17 in designated areas but not after 2 p.m. on the event day. Alternatively, trees can be taken to the East Richmond Road Convenience Center (ERRCC) at 3800 East Richmond Road during its regular hours—Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For those opting for curbside collection, trees should be placed next to recycle carts with all decorations removed. The department’s bulk and brush team will collect them on regular recycling days through Thursday, January 15.

In addition to tree recycling, attendees can bring up to five bags or boxes of paper documents for shredding onsite at no cost; staples and clips must be removed beforehand.

Electronic items such as computers, monitors, printers, phones, and other equipment with plugs will also be accepted for recycling for a fee. Residents can find detailed fee information and a complete list of accepted electronics online at www.rva.gov/public-works/clean-city-commission under the recycling tab.
