The Richmond Spiders men’s basketball team announced on Apr. 25 that guards Derin Saran and Dominick Stewart will transfer to the program and play in the 2026-27 season.

This addition is significant as both players bring experience from other Division I programs. Their arrival increases the depth of Richmond’s roster for the upcoming season.

Saran, originally from Istanbul, Turkey, played last season at UC Irvine where he started all 35 games as a redshirt sophomore. He averaged 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while helping lead his team to a Big West regular season title and earning Honorable Mention All-Big West honors. As a freshman at UC Irvine in the previous year, he scored an average of 10.1 points per game and ranked second among all Big West freshmen in scoring percentage with a field goal rate of over fifty percent. After transferring briefly to Stanford—where he appeared in five games before receiving a redshirt—he returned to UC Irvine before deciding on Richmond.

Stewart comes from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, after playing two seasons at Penn State. Last year he played in all 32 games with Penn State, starting in most contests while averaging 6.6 points per game and shooting nearly thirty-five percent from three-point range—a mark that ranked third among his teammates.

Both Saran and Stewart join Jamie Kaiser Jr., Amon Dörries, Jack McCaffery, and Andrew Ball as members of Richmond’s incoming transfer class for next season.

Their additions are expected to strengthen the team’s lineup as preparations begin for the next campaign.
