The Richmond Spiders men’s golf team will participate in the Wake Forest Regional of the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships from May 18 to May 20, according to a May 6 announcement by the NCAA. The event will take place at Bermuda Run Country Club and features Richmond among fourteen teams and five individuals.
This appearance follows Richmond’s recent win of the Atlantic 10 Conference title, which secured their automatic bid. The top five teams from each of six regional sites will move on to compete at the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, scheduled for May 29 through June 3.
It marks Richmond’s sixth team appearance in the NCAA Championship. The team’s most recent participation was in 2017 when they finished eleventh at the West Lafayette Regional.
Teams competing alongside Richmond include Virginia, Ole Miss, Pepperdine, Georgia Tech, Southern California, Wake Forest, Mississippi State, Little Rock, NC State, Kentucky, Houston, Navy and Presbyterian. Each is seeded according to conference performance or ranking.
As teams prepare for regionals across the country with hopes of advancing further into championship play later this month and early June, observers are watching how returning programs like Richmond perform against nationally ranked opponents.
