The University of Richmond women’s tennis team defeated Liberty University 4-3 on April 10 at the Westhampton Tennis Complex, marking their fourth consecutive victory. The match was held in celebration of Senior Day, with seniors Elizabeth Novak and Lara Bakhaya honored after play concluded.

This win brings Richmond’s overall record to 8-9 for the season and extends their winning streak to four matches. The close contest against Liberty, who now stands at 12-9, was decided by several tightly contested singles and doubles matches.

Richmond secured the doubles point with victories from Beatriz Guerra and Abby Lee on court three (6-3), followed by Bakhaya and Sofia Barbulescu clinching a narrow win on court one (7-5). In singles competition, Liberty initially took a lead as Celina Joseph and Maria Turchetto won their respective matches. However, Lucy Webber brought Richmond back into contention with a three-set victory over Yoanna Radulova. After another Liberty win put them ahead again, Barbulescu evened the score by overcoming Daniella O’Neill in three sets. The decisive point came from Lainey O’Neil, who defeated Anika Lemus in another three-set battle to secure the overall team victory for Richmond.

The match featured four out of six singles contests going to three sets. Notably, this marked Richmond’s third consecutive 4-3 victory during their current streak. Updated spring records show strong performances from Webber (11-6) and consistent contributions across both singles and doubles lineups.

Following this result, Richmond is set to host Hampton at home on Saturday at 1 p.m., continuing their spring schedule.
