The Richmond Department of Public Works (DPW) is organizing its inaugural ‘DPW Touch-A-Truck’ event on Wednesday, May 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Main Street Station in Richmond, Virginia. This free event aims to educate elementary school-aged children about the essential services provided by public works professionals.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet the staff who operate various vehicles and observe live demonstrations of equipment in action. The event offers a unique “behind-the-scenes” experience for young students.

Those interested in attending must register by May 13 at https://arcg.is/0u14Wn1. Bus parking and drop-off access are available from 1500 East Franklin Street.

For further details on DPW, visit rva.gov/public-works or email askpublicworks@rva.gov. Updates on activities and events can be found on X @DPW_RichmondVA.

The City of Richmond’s DPW is one of only 195 accredited public works agencies in the United States. Its responsibilities include leaf collection, street maintenance, trash collection, recycling, urban forestry, and more. DPW also manages the RVA Bike Share program and maintains city vehicles. The department’s operating budget is sourced from the general fund of the City of Richmond.
