The City of Richmond’s Department of Finance is working to finalize the distribution of remaining one-time real estate tax rebate checks. The initiative, approved by City Council in 2024, is intended to offer financial relief amid increasing property values and housing costs. Currently, around 36,057 residents are still awaiting their rebate checks, while 8,205 have received but not deposited theirs.

In a statement reflecting the city’s commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility, officials announced a revised timeline for check distribution. This adjustment aims to ensure accurate processing and timely delivery for homeowners.

Key dates in the updated schedule include:

– Verification and Processing Period: Currently being completed
– Check Printing and Mailing Begins: June 17, 2025
– Estimated Delivery Window: Beginning June 30, 2025

For residents who have recently deposited an incorrect check listing “Hartshorn Community Council” and incurred a return fee from their bank, reimbursement requests can be submitted via RVA311. Assistance is available by calling 311 or submitting a ticket online at rva311.com.

Instructions for submitting reimbursement requests online include clicking “Create New Request,” selecting “Real Estate Taxes,” continuing through the pop-up window, filling out the requested information, and uploading a photo of the return check fee from your bank.
