UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND: Nine UR Students Awarded Competitive Gilman Scholarships to Study Abroad Around the Globe

University of Richmond issued the following announcement on Jun. 2. 

Nine University of Richmond students, the most at one time in UR’s history, have received Gilman scholarships to support their study abroad experiences during the 2021-22 academic year.

Students receiving Gilman awards include:

  • Sherley Arias-Pimentel, a sophomore global studies major from Newark, New Jersey, who will study abroad in Rwanda, Uganda.
  • Jacques Baz, a sophomore business administration major from Virginia Beach, Virginia, who will study abroad in Spain.
  • Ngan Bui, a sophomore business administration major from North Chesterfield, Virginia, who will study abroad in Denmark.
  • Javier Cruz, a sophomore business administration major from Highland Park, Illinois, who will study abroad in Italy.
  • Morgan Malstead, a junior majoring in environmental studies and geography from East Wenatchee, Washington, who will study abroad in Italy.
  • Nicky Ramirez Veliz, a sophomore double majoring in biology and Latin American, Latino, and Iberian Studies from North Bergen, New Jersey, who will study abroad in Switzerland.
  • Sydney Thomas, a sophomore geography major from Aurora, Colorado, who will study abroad in Ireland.
  • Grace Wightman, a sophomore business administration major from Chatham, New Jersey, who will study abroad in Italy.
  • Jungwon You, a junior business administration major from Ellicott City, Maryland, who will study abroad in South Korea.
Forty-four University of Richmond students have been offered Gilman scholarships since the program started in 2001.
