The Short Story: VCU used a dominant first quarter to jump out to a 16-5 lead and led wire-to-wire in its sixth straight win.
OPENING TIP:
- Taya Robinson scored a team-high 18 points along with four rebounds, three assists and two blocks
- Sarah Te-Biasu scored 17 points, shooting 3-of-6 from 3-point range and 6-of-11 from the floor overall. She also grabbed six rebounds along with two assists and two steals
- Keowa Walters was the third Ram in double figures with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds
- VCU shot 47.9 percent from the floor and 46.7 percent from the 3-point range. The Patriots shot just 33.3 percent both overall and from behind the arc
- VCU extended its winning streak to six games, its longest since the 2019-20 season
- Mason was led by Tamai Lawhorne who had 17 points and seven rebound
- Griffith-Wallace opened the scoring with a 3-pointer and kickstarted a 16-2 run that was capped by a Te-Biasu layup. The Rams limited the Patriots to shoot just 12.5 percent in the quarter and 2-of-16 from the floor
- The second quarter was back-and-forth with both teams shooting better than 40 percent from the field but VCU held its margin and led 32-20 at halftime after three Robinson free throws with 1.7 seconds left
- Mason opened the third quarter with a quick 7-0 run to get within 32-27 with 8:38 left in the quarter
- Following a timeout, the Rams responded with a 7-0 run of their own to take a 39-27 lead with 6:01 left in the third. VCU led 48-39 heading into the final quarter
- VCU allowed the Patriots to get no closer than a seven-point margin in the fourth quarter to cruise to the win
VCU travels to UMass on Wednesday. Feb. 23 for a 7 p.m. tipoff in Amherst, Mass. The game will stream on ESPN+.
