Spring Registration Now Open for the Hezekiah Walker Center for Gospel Music at Virginia Union University

College1

Virginia Union University issued the following announcement on March 1

The four courses offered, Gospel Heritage, Worship 101, Song Writing, Publishing, & Licensing, and The Power of Sacred Music will leave students with knowledge of the history and evolution of gospel music, how to craft anthems and melodies that reflect the spirit of gospel music, a complete understanding of music publishing and licensing, and how the culture of people impacts psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our students and community to learn about one of the pillars of African American heritage,” said Dr. Hakim J. Lucas, President and CEO of Virginia Union University. “As the only HBCU in Richmond, we want to be the hub for gospel music education, not only for students to learn the history of gospel music, but also to receive the foundation to begin a career in gospel music if they desire to do so.”

Each course is taught by industry legends and experts, including award-winning songwriter and recording artists Ted Winn and Byron Cage, founder of Gospel Today Magazine and entrepreneur, Dr. Teresa Hairston and President of the Henrico Ministers’ Conference, Reverend Zynora D. Manson.

Classes are virtual, in four-week sessions with each course priced at $349. Each student will receive a certificate upon completion of each course. For more information and to register, click here.
