The 2022 CIAA Northern Division Golf Championship was contested at the Lakeside Park Club on Monday, April 4, in Richmond, Va. Designed by Donald J. Ross, Lakeside Park Club Course is a Par 70, 6,272 yards layout that again proved to be a great for participating teams. The bunker and slick greens are the greatest defense for Lakeside Park Club Golf Course. There were four Northern Division Schools competing in the 2022 Northern Division Championship. Elizabeth City State University, Saint Augustine's University, Virginia State University and Virginia Union University. The 2022 Northern Division Championship was a one day 36 holes contest.
VUU led all team scoring team score of 588 (300/288) and was the tournament winner.
VUU team scoring was led by senior Hayden Garcia, who was also the tournament Medalist and a member of the All-Tournament Team with a score of 141 (71/70), followed by senior Travon Willis tied for second with a score of 148 (78/70), with sophomore Joseph Graham 148 (75/73), junior Zaccheus Spann with a score of 151 (76/75) and senior Alkin Barkley 160 (78/82). Hayden, Joseph, Travon, and Zaccheus were the top four finishers in the tournament and member of the All-Tournament Team.
"I am very proud of the way the team stayed focused and played to their abilities versus their level of competition," said VUU Head Golf Coach E. Lee Coble. "Coach Bowers and I have always stressed 'play to your ability and not to the level of your competition.' This motto has served us well as we head into the final championship segment, the CIAA Championship. The team finished with a team scoring average of 73.50. This has been a process of continued improvement as we get ready for our 2022 CIAA Championship Thursday and Friday, April 14th & 15th, 2022. I continue to be proud of this team along with the assistance of our Assistant Coach Sean Bowers."
