Spiders Improve in Both Major Polls
After taking down Hampton Saturday, the University of Richmond football team improved in both major national polls, making the move from 21 to 20 in the American Football Coaches Association poll and from 19 to 17 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25.
Quarterback Reece Udinski (North Wales, Pa.) continues to lead the nation in completion percentage (213-277, .769) as well as completions per game (30.43), while receiver Jasiah Williams (Petersburg, Va.) holds down the No. 2 spot in the country in receptions per game with 8.1. Richmond leads the Colonial Athletic Association in third down conversions at 51-of-106, a number that ranks 13th nationally.
The Spiders have stayed disciplined through seven games, sporting the fewest penalties per game in NCAA FCS with 3.29. Richmond's punt return defense also stands among the nation's best, with opponents averaging -0.67 yards a return.
Richmond's scoring defense ranks 10th overall and second in the CAA at 16.9 points per game. The 41-10 win over Hampton was the second week in a row and third time this season the Spiders have held opponents scoreless in the second half.
The Spiders look to keep up their success Saturday when they visit Maine.
