Spiders Top Ramblers for A-10 Road Win

Paced by Katie Hill's double-double, 15 points and 12 rebounds, the University of Richmond women's basketball team defeated Atlantic 10 Conference newcomer Loyola Chicago, 68-49, Wednesday at Gentile Arena.
 
Along with Hill, four other Spiders scored in double-figures. In her first game back from a hand injury, Maggie Doogan scored 12 points, including two three-pointers, and pulled down seven rebounds. Siobhan Ryan tallied 10 points, with two three-pointers, and seven rebounds, while Emilija Krista Grava and Addie Budnik both chipped in 10 points.
 
The Spiders, now 11-4 on the year and 1-1 in league action, had control of the game from the tip. UR scored first and didn't look back, taking a six-point lead after the first 10 minutes of action and pushed their lead to 20 at the half, 35-15.
 
In the first half, Richmond shot 42.2 percent from the field (12-for-26), including 6-of-12 from the arc. The Spiders also held the advantage on the boards, pulling down 25 rebounds to Ramblers to 15. UR's defense held Loyola Chicago to 20 percent from the field (6-of-30) and 15.4 percent from long range (2-of-13).
 
Richmond shook off a cold third quarter, only tallying nine points, but the Spiders still closed out the quarter with an 18-point advantage, 44-26.
 
The Ramblers got as close as 14-points, on a pair of free throws at the 4:09 mark in the fourth quarter. Doogan tallied seven, including a three-pointer, of her 12-points in the final period. Budnik also scored seven points in the fourth, going 3-for-4 from the free throw line.

Sydney Boone tallied seven points and a game-high four assists in her first career start for Richmond.
 
UR finished the game shooting 54.3 percent from the field (25-of-46), including 8-for-15 (53.3 percent) from the arc, and went 10-for-14 from the charity stripe. The Spiders also won on the boards, 42-30.
 
Richmond stays on the road, heading to North Carolina to face Davidson, Sunday, Jan. 8. Tip is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
