VCU'S SECOND HALF RALLY FALLS SHORT AT GEORGE WASHINGTON 

The Short Story:  VCU trailed George Washington by 18 points at halftime before a furious second half rally got the Rams within 61-59 with 1:36 to play. The Colonials scored layups on their next two possessions and held off VCU.


OPENING TIP: 

  • Sarah Te-Biasu scored a team-high 15 points along with six rebounds and four assists
  • Keowa Walters scored nine points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds
  • Grace Hutson had 10 points and tied a career-high with five boards
  • George Washington shot 47.3 percent for the game while VCU shot 34.3 percent. The Colonials shot 40 percent from 3-point range while the Rams shot 20.8 percent
  • VCU outrebounded GW 40-31 overall including a 19-8 edge in offensive boards
  • The Colonials' Mia Lakstigala scored a game-high 21 points

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • VCU opened the game on a 10-4 run, powered by six points from Keowa Walters
  • The Colonials' offense erupted as they answered with a 29-8 run spanning across the first and second quarters to build a 33-16 lead. The Colonials shot 5-of-6 from 3-point range during the run
  • VCU trailed George Washington 39-21 at halftime
  • The Rams opened the third quarter on a 16-5 run that included five points from Grace Huston to cut the deficit to 44-37
  • The Colonials outscored VCU to end the quarter and held a 53-42 lead heading into the fourth
  • George Washington led 59-47 with 6:23 left in the game but VCU went on a 12-2 run
capped off by a Te-Biasu layup to get within 61-59 with 1:36 left

  • The Rams would get no closer as GW scored on its next two possessions and held off the late rally
