Burton, Grace Earn All-Atlantic 10 Honors

Spiders forwards Tyler Burton and Matt Grace were among the honorees when the Atlantic 10 announced its end-of-season award winners Tuesday at the site of the 2023 A-10 Men's Basketball Championship in Brooklyn. Burton, a senior, was named Second Team All-Conference. Grace, a graduate student, was named to the A-10 All-Academic Team.
 
Burton finished the regular season as the third-leading scorer and sixth leading rebounder in the Atlantic 10, averaging 18.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures in all 31 of Richmond's regular season games, the most games with 10 or more points of any player in the Atlantic 10.
 
This is Burton's second career All-Atlantic 10 selection. He was also a Second Team All-Conference pick in 2022. Burton is the eighth different Spider to earn All-Atlantic 10 honors in multiple seasons, joining Jacob Gilyard (2019-22), Grant Golden (2018-21), Kevin Anderson (2009-11), Blake Francis (2020-21), T.J. Cline (2016-17), Kendall Anthony (2014-15), and Mike Skrocki (2002, 2004). Burton also won the Chris Daniels Award as the A-10's Most Improved Player in 2021.
 
Grace averaged 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game during the regular season — all career bests — while simultaneously pursuing a Master's of Liberal Arts degree with a focus on data analytics. Grace, who has a 4.0 GPA as a graduate student, recorded the first three 20-point games of his Spiders career during the season, including a career-high 28 points at George Washington on February 8.
 
Grace is the first Spider to earn A-10 All-Academic honors since Noah Yates in 2019. Prior to that, Richmond hadn't had an All-Academic A-10 selection since 2007, when current Interim Head Coach Peter Thomas and Drew Crank were All-Academic selections.
 
Grace, Burton, and the rest of the Spiders will open their defense of their 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship Tuesday in Brooklyn with a 11:30 a.m. matchup against UMass.
