VCU baseball defeated Saint Louis 10-7 on May 3, securing a three-game sweep at The Diamond in Richmond. The Rams recorded their fourth Atlantic 10 weekend sweep of the season and moved into a tie for second place in the conference standings.
The victory marks VCU’s most conference sweeps in its Atlantic 10 history, tying previous records for A-10 wins since 2022. The team combined for twelve hits and scored double-digit runs for the second time during the series.
Pitcher Zach Peters earned his fourth win of the season and reached sixty-six strikeouts, tying Patrick Steitz for the team lead. Peters, along with Everett Vaughan and Cooper Campbell, totaled thirteen strikeouts—the most by VCU pitchers in a game since opening weekend. Eight of nine starters reached base, with four players reaching safely three times each. Trent Adelman and Nate Kirkpatrick led offensively with three hits apiece.
Saint Louis took an early lead by scoring six runs across the first two innings but VCU responded by tying the game at six after scoring two runs in each of the next three frames. Michael Petite contributed a two-run sacrifice fly while Quinn Maher, Adelman, and Kirkpatrick added run-scoring hits. In the sixth inning, Saint Louis regained a one-run advantage before VCU answered immediately with four runs to secure a decisive lead.
Alec Warden scored on Dante DeFranco’s single to tie it up before Petite walked to load the bases for Jacob Lee’s go-ahead walk; Nick Flores followed with a single that drove in two more runs. Peters allowed only two baserunners over the final three innings to close out both his performance and VCU’s sweep.
Looking ahead, VCU will play its next four games on the road starting against Norfolk State on Tuesday, May 5. The Rams will then continue their Atlantic 10 schedule against league-leading Saint Joseph’s from Friday through Sunday (May 8–10). All upcoming contests are scheduled to air on ESPN+.
