VCU baseball defeated Davidson 10-0 in Richmond at The Diamond on May 14, pairing a strong offensive performance with a combined two-hit shutout by Patrick Steitz and Cooper Campbell.
The win marks VCU’s fifth double-digit run game in its last eight outings, bringing the team’s total to 99 runs on 81 hits over that span. With this victory, VCU reached its 30th win of the season and now holds an 18-10 record in conference play. The Rams are one win away from tying their program record for conference victories.
Steitz earned his seventh win as a Ram by pitching six innings of one-hit ball and recording six strikeouts. Campbell closed out the game by tossing three innings and facing the minimum number of batters. Offensively, Quinn Maher and Alec Warden each went three-for-four at the plate, both achieving their first career three-hit games and collecting doubles.
Jacob Lee hit his fifteenth home run of the season, moving into sole possession of third place all-time for home runs at VCU with thirty-two in his career. Trent Adelman also homered during the game. Michael Petite was hit by a pitch for the twenty-first time this season, tying him for sixth-most in single-season program history at VCU.
The Rams built an early lead with Nick Flores delivering an RBI double in the first inning. They added more runs through five hits in the second frame before Lee’s leadoff homer started another scoring burst in the third inning. A squeeze play from Adelman helped extend their advantage to seven runs early on.
VCU will continue its final regular season weekend against Davidson on May 15-16 as it seeks to secure the number two seed for the Atlantic-10 Championship.
