VCU defeated Richmond 2-1 in the series finale on April 26, ending a six-game losing streak and tying the Spiders in the Atlantic 10 standings. The game took place at Pitt Field in Richmond, Virginia.
The win was significant for VCU as it brought their record to 23-20 overall and 12-9 in conference play, matching Richmond’s conference record. The Rams’ pitching staff limited Richmond to one run, marking the fifth time this season that VCU has allowed only one run in a game.
Dawson Newman earned his fourth win of the season by allowing just one runner to reach safely and stranding two inherited runners. Zach Peters secured his fifth save in Atlantic 10 play by pitching four scoreless innings with six strikeouts while giving up only two hits. At the plate, Dante DeFranco and Alec Warden each hit a double and scored a run, while Michael Petite reached base twice after being hit by pitches.
Trent Adelman drove in what would become the winning run with an RBI groundout following Warden’s leadoff double and sacrifice bunt from Teige Lethert. VCU struck out just three times offensively but recorded nine strikeouts on defense. The Rams also stranded ten Richmond baserunners during the contest.
Looking ahead, VCU will continue its road trip against Old Dominion on Tuesday, April 28, aiming to split their season series before returning home for a three-game set against Saint Louis from May 1-3. All upcoming games are scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN+.
