VCU’s women’s lacrosse team allowed the fewest goals in its 11-year history during a 13-2 victory over George Mason, according to an April 25 announcement. The game took place at Cary Street Field and marked the regular season finale for both teams.

The defensive performance by VCU limited George Mason to just two goals, breaking the previous program record of three goals allowed, which was set earlier this season against Howard. VCU has now held opponents to six or fewer goals in seven out of sixteen games this year.

The Rams outshot the Patriots by a margin of 39-21 overall and had an advantage of 18-9 in shots on goal. They also led draw controls with a tally of 13-5. Eilbacher scored consecutive goals to start the game, helping VCU build an early lead. The Rams then extended their lead with eight unanswered goals, reaching a score of 12-1 late in the third quarter.

George Mason managed only nine total shots and four shots on goal during the first half as VCU maintained strong defensive pressure throughout the match. Regan Bestick made eleven saves for George Mason during the contest.

Looking ahead, VCU will play against either St. Bonaventure or George Washington in the Atlantic 10 Semifinals on Friday, May 1 at Davidson, North Carolina. The semifinal match is scheduled for broadcast on ESPN+.
