VCU falls to Davidson in A-10 women’s lacrosse championship game

VCU lost to Davidson 10-5 in the Atlantic 10 Championship game on May 3, after holding a halftime lead. The match took place in Davidson, North Carolina, with VCU finishing the season at 13-5 and Davidson at 15-4.

The result marks the first time VCU played in the A-10 Championship game for women’s lacrosse. The Rams set a program record with their 13 wins this season.

During the first half, VCU led by three goals at halftime after outscoring Davidson 3-1 in the second quarter. Epperly opened scoring for VCU with a goal late in the first quarter, followed by Unzicker converting a free position shot to secure a lead at the end of the period. Koeneke’s goal before halftime gave VCU its largest advantage of the day.

Despite their strong start, VCU was unable to maintain momentum as Davidson scored eight unanswered goals during the second half. Brooke Ross led Davidson with three goals. The Rams outshot Davidson overall but trailed in shots on goal and draw controls.

Koeneke, Palmer and Doyen were named to the A-10 All-Championship Team for their performances throughout the tournament.

Looking ahead, both teams will reflect on their seasons as they prepare for future competitions.
