Virginia Commonwealth University lost to Virginia Tech 8-6 in a baseball game played at The Diamond in Richmond on April 21. With this result, the Rams’ record moved to 22-18 while the Hokies improved to 20-19. The victory allowed Virginia Tech to complete a sweep of the two-game season series against VCU.

The game saw strong performances from VCU’s top hitters, with Dante DeFranco and Jacob Lee each recording two hits. Lee hit his tenth home run of the season, making him only the fifth player in program history with multiple double-digit home run seasons and tying him for seventh all-time with 27 career home runs.

Teige Lethert contributed a two-run homer in the sixth inning, marking VCU’s forty-fifth home run of the year. On the pitching side, Hunter Gotschall worked four innings out of the bullpen, allowing one run on three hits and matching his season-high with five strikeouts. Bryce Carter and Cooper Weygandt also made scoreless relief appearances for VCU.

Both teams scored early, but after several lead changes and a close contest through six innings, Virginia Tech pulled ahead with three runs in the sixth. Although VCU narrowed the gap with Lethert’s homer and managed another run in their final at-bat, they could not overcome Virginia Tech’s offense.

Looking ahead, VCU is scheduled for a three-game Atlantic 10 series against Richmond from April 24 to April 26 at Pitt Field. Following that series, they will travel to Norfolk for another matchup against Old Dominion on April 28. All upcoming games will be available via ESPN+ streaming.
