VCU men’s tennis defeated Duquesne 4-1 at the Thalhimer Tennis Center in Richmond, Va., according to an April 16 announcement. The Rams improved their record to 7-13 overall and maintained a perfect mark in Atlantic 10 conference matches.
The win is significant as it keeps VCU undefeated in A-10 play and extends its all-time record against Duquesne to seven wins without a loss. The match showcased strong performances across both doubles and singles competitions, contributing to the team’s momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
Head Coach Dimi Kutrovsky said, “Took care of business today. Not always easy to beat teams you’re supposed to beat, I think we did a good job overall of taking care of our courts and handling some heat. Looking forward to finishing at home on Saturday and preparing for the A-10 tournament.”
In doubles action, Mats Bredschneijder and Leon Zaorski won their match on Court 2 with a score of 6-2, while Gevorg Mnatsakanyan and Patrik Petera secured another victory on Court 1 with a score of 6-3. Singles play saw straight-set victories from Bredschneijder (6-0, 6-3), Petera (6-2, 6-1), and Alfred Almasi (6-2, 6-2), clinching the overall team win for VCU.
Several other matches were underway but unfinished when play was halted; however, most were trending in favor of VCU. The Rams will next host Saint Joseph’s for their regular season finale on Senior Night.
