The VCU Rams men’s track and field team finished in third place at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, according to a May 3 announcement. The meet took place at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia, with Rhode Island winning the team title.

The Rams’ performance included four gold medals and three silver medals across various events. This result highlights strong individual efforts from several athletes as well as notable relay performances.

Freshman Presten Augustin had a standout weekend by setting a personal best of 51.49 seconds to win gold in the 400-meter hurdles. He also earned silver in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.02 seconds and was named A-10 Rookie of the Year. Jordan Davis won gold in the 100-meter dash, finishing just ahead of Davidson’s Sineth Andrabadu by one hundredth of a second.

In other events, Jonathan Hess secured silver in the 800-meter run after posting a personal record during preliminaries. The relay teams also contributed points: Coleman Hallums, Jude Okafor, Lopez Lumaine, and Davis placed fifth in the 4×100 meters; Julian Lawson, Carter Smith, Jonathan Hess, and Thomas Hess competed in the 4×800 meters.

Field event successes included Philip Daniel earning silver in triple jump with a mark of 15.64 meters while also achieving a personal record long jump for sixth place. Destiny Ese set his own personal record for fourth place triple jump and seventh long jump finish; Isaiah-Taji Kargbo-Owens claimed bronze in triple jump.

Shinobu Hawk won gold with a discus throw personal best of 52.48 meters while Adham Saleh took gold—and recorded program history’s third-best mark—in hammer throw at 61.34 meters as a freshman.

This championship concludes most Rams’ season but select athletes will continue competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round scheduled for late May.
