VCU defeated Duquesne 19-6 on April 4 at Cary Street Field in Richmond, Virginia, marking a significant achievement for the Rams. The team jumped out to a 15-0 lead and led 15-1 at halftime, which is the largest halftime lead in program history.
This victory clinched VCU’s first winning season during its 11th year as a program and tied the record for most Atlantic 10 Conference wins in a season. The game saw VCU outshoot Duquesne by a margin of 26-12 overall and held an advantage of 20-9 in shots on goal.
The scoring began just 38 seconds into the match when Palmer found the back of the net. By the end of the first quarter, VCU had built a commanding nine-goal lead with Palmer recording a hat trick within that period. Koeneke and Bennett each contributed two goals in the first half as VCU established its dominant position.
After taking a decisive early lead, VCU mixed up its lineups, allowing Duquesne to score four of the next five goals. However, VCU’s advantage was never seriously threatened as they maintained control throughout and secured their ninth win of the season.
Looking ahead, VCU will travel to Rhode Island for their next game on April 18 at Kingston. The match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
