VCU Women’s Tennis lost to No. 32 Charlotte on the road on April 10, with the final score ending at 4-0 in favor of the 49ers.
The result is significant as it brings VCU’s overall record to 9-10 for the season, while Charlotte improves to 20-3. The Rams remain undefeated in Atlantic 10 conference play at 2-0 but were unable to overcome Charlotte during this non-conference matchup.
Charlotte secured the doubles point by winning matches on Courts 3 and 1. VCU was leading on Court 2 with a score of 5-4 when play was stopped, providing a positive moment despite the overall loss. In singles competition, Shona Nakano, Yelyzave Chainykova, and Prisca Abbas each recorded victories for Charlotte. Several other singles matches were unfinished when Charlotte clinched the win.
In doubles action, Sara Suchankova and Ni Xi defeated Tania Andrade Sabando and her partner from VCU with a score of 6-2. Andrea Chacon and Shona Nakano also won their match against another VCU duo by the same margin.
Looking ahead, VCU will return home for its final two regular season matches against Duquesne on April 16 and Saint Joseph’s on April 18.
