CASTILLO, VALDES GARNER ATLANTIC 10 ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Two VCU Men's Soccer student-athletes received recognition from the Atlantic 10 Conference in their end of season awards as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.
Freshman defender Gerardo Castillo earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team. Castillo started all 14 matches that he played in this season, registering 1,182 total minutes of play. A native of Costa Rica, Castillo led the Rams with three assists in 2022 and added seven shots, one of which was on goal.
Redshirt junior defender Jared Valdes got the nod for the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team. Valdes started in all 17 matches, boosting the Rams offensively with two goals, one of four players with multiple goals this season. The Dunn Loring, Va. native played a key role in the Rams' defensive effort as a center back. Off the pitch, Valdes is a biology major with a 4.0 GPA.
