The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) has announced that Commonwealth of Virginia employees and preschool through K–12 teachers, both public and private, will receive free admission to two special photography exhibitions. These exhibitions, "American, born Hungary: Kertész, Capa, and the Hungarian American Photographic Legacy" and "A Long Arc: Photography and the American South since 1845," are available for viewing at VMFA until January 26, 2025.

Alex Nyerges, Director and CEO of VMFA, emphasized the museum's role as an educational institution in Virginia. He stated, “The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts serves as an important educational institution for all Virginians. We welcome schoolteachers and our colleagues from the Commonwealth of Virginia to see these exhibitions. Visitors will be captivated by the images, which reflect the importance of photography in shaping our understanding of history.”

These exhibitions serve as valuable teaching resources for subjects such as social studies, American history, visual art, and photography. The exhibition "American, born Hungary" explores the influence of Hungarian-born photographers who emigrated to various cities in America and contributed significantly to the field with their innovative techniques in photojournalism and other genres. Meanwhile, "A Long Arc" presents over 175 years of Southern American photography that documents significant historical periods like the Civil War and Civil Rights Movement.

To access free tickets for these exhibitions, eligible employees must present their employee IDs or badges at VMFA's Visitor Services desk. One ticket per badge is allowed. Additionally, reservations can be made at the desk for first-available tickets.

Visitors can purchase combined tickets for both exhibitions online at VMFA.museum: $12 for adults, $10 for seniors aged 65+, $8 for youth aged 7–17 and college students with ID. Participants in Museums for All can buy combined tickets at a reduced price of $2 each with a limit per EBT card. VMFA members and children under six have free access to these exhibitions.

The museum remains open every day throughout the year with free general admission. For further details on these exhibitions or general inquiries about VMFA's offerings, visit their website at VMFA.museum.
