The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) in Richmond is marking Black History Month with a series of exhibitions, art installations, and events that celebrate African American artists and community leaders. The museum's Director and CEO, Alex Nyerges, stated, "The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts welcomes the community to participate in the incredible programs we have planned for Black History Month."

Highlighted works include pieces by Archibald John Motley Jr., Jacob Lawrence, Gary Simmons, and Allison Saar. A notable installation on display until March 9 is "Wonder Working Power" by Theaster Gates.

Special programs during the month feature an open studio workshop led by Hamilton Glass, an African American Read-In program, a curator's talk with Dr. Ndubuisi Ezeluomba about a historic loan to Lusanga in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the 7th annual RVA Community Makers recognition program.

VMFA offers free general admission all year round. For more information on Black History Month events at VMFA, visit their website.
