Washington, D.C. – On April 21, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court halted restrictions imposed by the lower courts on mifepristone in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. Food and Drug Administration:
“The Supreme Court’s decision to grant the Justice Department’s request for an administrative stay while litigation proceeds in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA is an important step forward in the continued fight for reproductive freedom. This means that mifepristone remains available for use in any state where it is currently legal.
“While this is welcomed news, it is temporary. The widespread attacks on abortion access are not over, and reproductive freedom remains in jeopardy. In the wake of Dobbs, we face a reproductive justice crisis and cannot stand idly by.
“I will closely monitor these court cases for further developments. In the interim, President Biden and Congress must continue fighting to defend the right to choose. I applaud the Biden-Harris administration for its efforts to stave off these baseless legal challenges. We must remain vigilant.”
