Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, representing Virginia's 4th district since 2023, has expressed concerns regarding recent public health developments. Through a series of tweets, she highlighted the challenges facing the health sector, particularly with reference to actions by the Trump Administration.

On April 8, 2025, McClellan noted the 30-year milestone of National Public Health Week, emphasizing the negative impact of federal decisions on health agencies. "This week marks the 30th anniversary of #NationalPublicHealthWeek — but this year, HHS Secretary Kennedy and Trump Administration actions gutting health agencies and firing public health workers cast a long shadow over our celebration of public health accomplishments."

Continuing her discourse, McClellan turned her attention to the specific implications for Virginia's health infrastructure. On April 9, 2025, she tweeted, "Virginia has been hit hard by the Trump Administration’s workforce and federal cuts to its health department. This further strains our state health agencies. I call on my colleagues to support reigning in the Trump Administration."
