Washington, D.C. – On May 16, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) spoke on the House floor to commemorate National Infrastructure Week and the billions in federal funding made available to Virginia through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

“Thanks to President Biden’s leadership and the hard work of congressional Democrats, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to deliver for Virginians and Americans across our nation,” said Congresswoman McClellan. “More than $4.7 billion in federal funding has already been announced and is headed to our Commonwealth. As we continue to implement the law, billions more will be made available to our state, which will help modernize existing infrastructure, create thousands of good-paying jobs, and improve Virginians’ quality of life. This historic, once-in-a-generation investment will ensure the United States can compete in a 21st century economy.”

Through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Virginia:

  • Will receive approximately $7.7 billion over five years to repair highways and bridges in poor condition.
  • Will receive $100 million minimally to help ensure high-speed internet coverage across the Commonwealth.
  • Will receive one of the largest investments in clean drinking water – to date, $291 million has been announced to Virginia to provide clean and safe water across the state and improve water infrastructure.
  • Will receive $1.2 billion over five years to improve public transit across the state.
  • Has been awarded $32 million through the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program to replace existing school buses with zero-emission and low-emission models. Communities in Virginia were also awarded $11.5 million for clean transit buses and improved bus service through DOT’s Low- and No-Emission Bus and Bus Facilities Program.
  • Will receive $106 million over the next five years to support the expansion of electric vehicle charging in the state.
  • Has been awarded $96.2 million for clean energy, energy efficiency, and power.
  • Has received $233.3 million to modernize airport infrastructure.
  • Has received $192.7 million to repair and invest in port infrastructure.
  • Has received $495.3 million to improve infrastructure resilience, including $13.4 million through the Army Corps of Engineers for flood mitigation.
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is empowering our communities to update, rebuild, and reconnect,” continued Congresswoman McClellan. “For instance, the Reconnect Jackson Ward Project has been awarded $1.35 million in funding to reconnect the once thriving predominantly Black community that was cut in half by I-95. While House Republicans attempt to force a devastating default on our nation’s debt, I am focused on ensuring communities in Virginia’s Fourth can reap the maximum benefits from this historic legislation.”
