On March 12, 2025, McClellan tweeted about the challenges faced by states and localities in providing adequate educational resources. She stated, "As a former state legislator with 18 years in the General Assembly, I know that states and localities struggle to provide what every child needs to learn and succeed. The Department of Education was created to help fill these gaps in state and local support for public schools."

In another tweet on the same day, McClellan emphasized the importance of education for personal growth and societal prosperity. She wrote, "Education is the key to individual opportunity and a thriving health economy, communities, and democracy. Democrats will fight to defend every child’s right to reach their full potential, no matter who they are or where they live."

Later that day, McClellan addressed an impending government shutdown. She expressed her readiness to support a temporary funding measure by tweeting: "With a government shutdown fast-approaching, I stand ready to vote for a four-week funding extension. Four weeks would allow Congress to reach a bipartisan agreement that doesn’t cut billions of dollars from veterans benefits, health care and more."
