Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan of Virginia’s 4th district recently expressed her opposition to a new budget plan proposed by House Republicans through a series of tweets. Her statements address the Republicans' budget priorities and the consequences she believes they hold for the American people.

On April 10, 2025, McClellan posted, "Today, House Republicans showed the American people their true colors. Their budget plan makes clear that they’d rather reward billionaire donors like Elon Musk with massive tax breaks than fight for working families." McClellan asserted that she voted against the plan due to the favoritism she perceives towards affluent donors.

In a subsequent post on the same date, McClellan inquired, "Why are Republicans cutting life-saving services that millions of Americans support?" She attributed these cuts to a preference for providing tax breaks for billionaires and described it as a demonstration of loyalty towards past President Donald Trump. McClellan contended that this approach would negatively impact the federal workforce.

In a follow-up tweet, McClellan stated, "House Republicans broke their promise to put the American people first. Millions will suffer as a result. That’s why I voted NO." She emphasized the adverse effects she believes the budget will have on the general public.

Jennifer McClellan is currently serving in the U.S. Congress, representing Virginia’s 4th district. She replaced Donald McEachin in 2023. McClellan has a history of legislative work, having served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and the Virginia Senate. Born in Petersburg, Virginia in 1972, she currently resides in Richmond. She holds a BA from the University of Richmond and a JD from the University of Virginia.
