Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia's 4th district, shared several updates on April 11, 2025, through her social media. These updates range from announcements about local art competitions to discussions on significant legislative matters.
On April 11, she reminded young artists in her district about the approaching deadline for the Congressional Art Competition. McClellan encouraged high school artists in VA-04 to submit their original artwork for a chance to have their pieces displayed in the Capitol.
Later that day, McClellan expressed her concerns about the recent passage of the SAVE Act by House Republicans. In a post, she described the legislation as a "clear-cut case of voter suppression" and criticized its impact on access to democracy for Americans. McClellan highlighted her discussion with @RepKamlagerDove on @WTFshow2025 to explain her position on why the act threatens democratic participation, even though it claims to aim at “election security."
Commemorating legislative history, McClellan noted that April 11 also marks the 60th anniversary of President Johnson signing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. She reflected on its purpose to enhance educational quality and opportunities, especially for disadvantaged students, through federal funding. McClellan, referencing her own teaching background, reminded followers that President Johnson understood the significance of this act due to his past as a classroom teacher.
Jennifer McClellan, born in Petersburg, Virginia, in 1972, is a veteran legislator with an extensive career in the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate. Following her graduation from the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia, she has represented Virginia’s 4th District in Congress since replacing Donald McEachin in 2023.
