On April 9, 2025, McClellan expressed concerns about losing out in the race for global AI dominance against China. She attributed this challenge to the actions of the Trump Administration, citing the harmful effects of tariffs, the administration's stance on renewable energy, widespread dismissals, and funding restrictions. She stated, "AI has the ability to transform everything, and we are in a race for global AI dominance against China. Yet the Trump Administration has undermined our ability to compete through its tariffs, war on renewable energy, mass firings and funding freezes."

In another statement on the same day, McClellan criticized Speaker Johnson and Republican representatives' vote to maintain tariffs, indicating that these actions prioritized former President Trump over the welfare of the American populace. She commented, " Speaker Johnson and any Republicans who voted to ban the House from ending these tariffs just put Trump over the American people."

On April 10, 2025, McClellan highlighted the American people's collective efforts in opposing changes to significant social programs. She noted the repeated demands directed toward the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans, emphasizing the public's desire to safeguard various benefits. McClellan articulated, "The American people have rallied and shown up time and time again to send a clear message to the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans: don’t touch our Medicaid, Social Security, nutrition programs, veterans benefits and other popular programs."

Jennifer McClellan, who was born in Petersburg, Virginia, now resides in Richmond. She has an extensive political and educational background, having served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2017 and earned degrees from the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia.
