Richmond Leader

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the North Carolina State Board Of Elections on February 6, 2025. The request was made by Richmond Leader, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In line with our commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we sought access to specific records under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, §2.2-3704 et seq. The information requested includes a comprehensive list of all candidates running in the upcoming spring elections.

The details we asked for each candidate include their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation. Additionally, we also requested contact information for each candidate - specifically their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization actively involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is crucial for us at Richmond Leader. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which involve holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that as media professionals disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver for this request. We eagerly await a positive response from the North Carolina State Board Of Elections as we continue our work in serving our readers with accurate and timely information about their local government affairs.
